Today we went to visit the Giraffe Centre, which was quite an experience! The girls and I got to feed Rothschild giraffes and pet them as well as learn about them. Here are some quick facts about giraffes:

  1. Giraffes are the tallest living land mammal.
  2. Adult males (bulls) are known to consume about 75 lbs. of food per day.
  3. The gestation period is 15 months. The female gives birth while standing and then the baby giraffe is able to stand on its own in about an hour, which is actually  a lot longer than a lot of other mammals.
  4. The heart measures 1×2 feet.
  5. They walk with limbs of the same side of the body instead of alternating.
